Patientgpservices.com is a new web site service that allows patients to submit their repeat prescriptions online without having to visit their GP Practice.
Patientgpservices.com aims to save time, reduce the risk of medicine-related problems, manage workloads and improve convenience for patients and GP Practices.
The service is available to anyone with internet access and is free of charge. It is in effect similar to a patient walking into or faxing their GP Practice with their repeat prescription.

How does patientgpservices differ from current NHS I.T. programs?
Patiengpservices.com is independent from the Repeat Dispensing service and the Electronic Prescription Service.
The Repeat Dispensing service applies to patients with chronic conditions who are considered to remain stable for the period of dispensing. The medication is dispensed by the chemist for a predefined period of time e.g. 12 months. This service is not hugely popular with GP’s as often the patient’s medical condition needs regular review and in any case the patient often attends the surgery for other reasons. Patientgpservices.com allows GP Practices to stay in touch with patients (and vice versa) without the need for face to face consultations.
The Electronic Prescription Service is essentially the relationship between GP Practice’s and Pharmacists. EPS is still several years off and eventually will only allow an electronic prescription to be passed from the GP Practice to the chemist. It has no involvement in how the prescription is communicated with the GP Practice in the first instance.
Do you deliver medicine?
Patientgpservices.com is in no way involved in the physical delivery or sale of medicine, the service simply allows the patient to communicate their repeat prescription accurately, efficiently and quickly to the GP Practice. The supply of medicine to the patient will still be a matter for the GP and local pharmacies.
Are there any restrictions?
There are no time restrictions to use this service. Patients and GP Practice's are free to use this service and much or as little as they wish.
